PUCAK PENULISAN TEMPLE, based on Balinese old mauscripts, it was said that Penulisan Hill was also called Tunggal Hill as its location is separated from the chains of montains stretching from West to East, as if to divide Bali into two parts, the northern and southern side. Around the ninth century, on the peak of Penulisan Hill, Tegeh Koripan Temple was built, known more as Pucak Penulisan Temple, as it lies on top of Penulisan Hill. The temple has terraces leading to it, up to 11 terraces. The terraces show the continuation of pyramidal cultural aspect of megalithic age. Pucak Penulisan is part of temple complexes, where there are other temple complexes there. Danu Temple and Taman Danu Temple are situated at the third terrace, and Ratu Penyarikan Temple lies at the fourth terrace, on the western part of the temple. The fourth complex is Ratu Daha Tua Temple located at the western part at the sixteenth terrace. The last or fifth complex is Panarajon Temple sitting on the eastern side of the hill's peak. This complex is the highest compared to the other four complexes. Inside the temple complex visitor can see stone-statue believed to have come from old Bali era as the heritage of megalithic culture. The temple sits 1,745 meters above sea surface, around 3 kms from Kintamani or some 30 kms from the town of Bangli.
